Core ITC members attended the 58th Meeting of the CITES Standing Committee, in Geneva, Switzerland. A meeting on Asian Big Cats and the Parties response to Decision 14.69 was held. ITC presented a letter to participants in Response to the Notification of the Parties Number 2008/059 on Tiger Breeding Operations. ITC Letter on Tiger Breeding Operations

“The World Bank played an unexpectedly important role at the 58th meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species Standing Committee in Geneva. They made a very strong statement on the need to uphold the tiger trade bans—being pushed for rescinding by a powerful Chinese tiger farm lobby—and called for the phasing out of tiger farms. The International Tiger Coalition (ITC) applauded this statement, which could well change the direction of the debate on tiger farms in Southeast Asia.”
